Gift Aid

Gift Aid is a Government run scheme that allows UK charities to reclaim 25% in tax on every eligible donation made by a UK taxpayer. This means that for every £10 you give the charity could receive an extra £2.5 at no cost to you. That’s great!

How does it work?

If your online donation is eligible for Gift Aid we will reclaim tax on behalf of our partner charities. We have set up a process that has been audited and approved by HMRC to ensure your donation goes further.

What do I have to do?

When you make an online donation you just need to confirm whether or not you are a UK taxpayer by ticking the box next to the ‘giftaid it’ logo in the checkout area.

When is my donation eligible for Gift Aid?

Firstly, you must be a UK taxpayer and an individual (not a company). Secondly, you must pay UK Income Tax or Capital Gains Tax that is at least equal to the amount reclaimed on your donation in the appropriate tax year.

If your donation is not eligible for Gift Aid you still make a huge difference to the charity you support as they will receive 100% of your donation.

What if I am a higher-rate taxpayer?

If you are lucky enough to pay tax at the higher rate you can reclaim tax relief. This is based on your gross donation and stands at 20% which works out as the difference of your higher rate of tax (40%) and the basic rate (20%).

How will the charity use the Gift Aid?

It is up to the charity to decide. The reclaimed tax could be used for example to cover running costs or to support a new project. It will make a difference and help the charity of your choice.

However, your initial donation will still be used for the gift that you choose.
